چکیده

In more than 90% of hip replacements, the acetabular cup is made ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) and femoral head stainless steel, cobalt-chromium-molybdenum alloys, titanium or ceramic. The primary factor in evaluating soft-on-hard endoprostheses maximum contact pressure as strength UHMWPE. level these pressures used a criterion for correct selection size radial clearance connection during arthroplasty specific patient. According to previously developed new analytical method proposed estimating thermo-diffusion nitrided (TDN) GRADE 2 – UHMWPE joint implant. effects implant diameter on are determined average load. Relationships between above-mentioned parameters established. A comparison estimated by numerical analysis with ANSYS (2D 3D). calculated using 2D model have been found be lower limit, 3D upper limit calculations. Therefore, it should expected that at thickness ˜ 7…8 mm stresses will not significantly different those obtained from solution above method. can effectively research only (metal-on-polymer, ceramics-on-polymer), but also hard-on-hard (metal-on-metal, ceramics-on-ceramics). results calculations were related FEM known literature their convergence was

Contact pressures in the human hip joint.

The pressure distribution between the cartilaginous surfaces in the human hip joint was measured using pressure-sensitive film. Five cadaveric hip joints (aged between 58 and 87 years) were measured at three positions and loads, representing three instants in the stance phase of the walking cycle. The pressure distribution was not uniform, indicating that the cartilage did not, to any great ext...

Muscle atrophy and metal-on-metal hip implants

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Muscle atrophy is seen in patients with metal-on-metal (MOM) hip implants, probably because of inflammatory destruction of the musculo-tendon junction. However, like pseudotumors, it is unclear when atrophy occurs and whether it progresses with time. Our objective was to determine whether muscle atrophy associated with MOM hip implants progresses with time. PATIENTS AND...

Reduction of Metal Artifacts in Patients with Hip Joint Implants by Using Optimized Imaging Protocols

Introduction: Metal-on-metal (MOM) hip resurfacing implants were predicted to be suitable for young, active patients (1). However, there are indications that the MOM-implants fail more frequently than traditional implants (2), possibly caused by an aseptic lymphocytic vasculitis-associated lesion in the tissues surrounding the implant (3). The diagnosis of these lesions by MRI would be facilita...
